Off-Season Escapes: Exploring the Winter Trails Above La Casa Resort
December 4, 2025One of our favourite things about The Mansion is hands-down, the location. We aren’t right in the city, and that’s exactly what we love. We are bordered by Fintry Provincial Park, Terrace Mountain, and of course, Lake Okanagan. With all this amazing nature around us, you surely won’t be surprised to learn that we are surrounded by trails, some of which can be accessed right from the top of the resort. It literally couldn’t be easier to get outside and enjoy some hiking. These trails are well-used by walkers, hikers, snowshoers, and ATV riders, and they provide a simple, enjoyable way to get some fresh air without the need to drive anywhere.
The hillside behind the resort has an extensive network of wide paths that climb gradually up to the upper bench. The terrain is open and easy to follow, making it ideal for casual walkers and families. You don’t need special gear or advanced fitness — just comfortable shoes and a warm jacket (if you’re visiting in winter!)
As you head up the hill, you’ll quickly get views back over the resort and Lake Okanagan. The higher you go, the more the scenery opens up. The trails split off in a few directions, so you can choose a shorter loop or continue farther along the benchlands. Many of these routes connect to the ATV tracks, which are broad and easy to walk on even in the off-season.
During winter and early spring, the area is especially quiet. It’s a great place for a simple walk, a stretch after breakfast, or a bit of activity before settling in for the day. The trails are not technical, and most people find them approachable and enjoyable at their own pace.
For those looking to explore a little farther, the upper sections offer long views of the valley and the lake. On clear days, the landscape is wide and open, and the walk feels refreshing without being difficult.
The best part is, once you’re done, it’s a short walk back downhill to the Mansion where you can warm up, grab a hot drink, or soak your tired legs in the hot tub. It’s the perfect reward after some time on the trails!
This truly is one of our favourite ways to enjoy the off-season at La Casa: no crowds, easy walking, fresh air, and a chance to see the Okanagan from a whole new angle.
Don’t wait for the warmer weather to get outside! Come for a visit and see for yourself what we’ve known all along – there’s a bit of winter magic up here at The Mansion!
